Love FAIL

Pixies, YouTube, and cute Israeli girls
Just three days before its planned date, The Pixies have cancelled their concert in Tel Aviv. I never was a huge music buff so I didn’t really know who they were. But since Israeli radio has decided to play them over and over again every time they are being discussed (which, in the past 24 hours, has been a many times), I realized who they are and made a few interesting discoveries:
1. In 2006, just as YouTube was starting to gain traction, one of the top video clip in the “most viewed” section for a few months was “Hey” by the The Pixies, covered by 2 very cute girls. It was played often in our apartment in Boston. Guess what? these 2 girls are Israeli. I think they probably helped The Pixies sell quite a few albums since they have about 30 million views.
2. Tasha, one of the girls, is today studying cinema:
At the moment I’m studing cinema in Israel in Sapir collage, 3rd year. come to israel to visit. especially Kevin Smith!
Incidentally, Sapir College is located next to Sderot, in the northern Negev of Israel. Just a few kilometers away from the Gaza Strip.
3. Sderot has been under periodic rocket attacks for the past 10 years. I imagine that Tasha, having been at Sapir for 3 years now, knows pretty well where the rocket shelters around her college.
The reason the Israeli government does not want to let ships reach directly to Gaza is because this is how Hamas would get more rockets.
Finally, here is how Tasha signs on her YouTube channel. Maybe The Pixies can take some advice from, undoubtedly, their number one fan:
GIVE ME MUSIC and I’ll be fine :)
let love, good people and music fill your soul, don’t let fears limit you. I’m a dreamer you guessed right!
Facebook Search 2
Inside Zuckerberg’s internal e-mail published by TechCrunch today there is an interesting nugget of information.
Our search type ahead serves the same order of magnitude of queries as Google, and our team has fewer than 15 engineers.
People search stuff on Facebook as much as they do on Google. Isn’t that nuts?

Facebook has been experimenting with the new friend stories. Today they are trying bigger thumbnails and a “See more” link. Personally I think it’s still isn’t useful to see such a small thumbnail. They should add a bigger photo when you hover the person’s name or something.

“Recommended Pages” -> That’s new
Facebook Search
For some time now, I have wanted to write a really in depth piece on how Facebook may become a more effective search engine than Google within a few years, but today I experienced something that I think is the best example of the power of LIKES and decided to just write something already:
Today’s Facebook minor UI changes observation: Events got an upgrade to the top right of the screen. Plus, you can RSVP directly from the home page. Application requests and invites are now 2 floors lower, below the sponsored ads (yaay!).
I was thinking with my friends Ran and Siavosh, wouldn’t it be nuts if once Facebook launches its location based product (dubbed “Places”), Facebook would automatically create an “instant event” for you if more than 5 of your friends check-in to the same place?
For instance, Facebook referral traffic increased by 290% for The Washington Post, 250% for ABC News, and 80% for The Globe and Mail, Canada’s largest-circulation national newspaper. The Globe and Mail has also found that people who have liked their Facebook Page are more engaged on their site — and comment, share, and read more.
Whoa!
I think that ynet is Israel’s most trafficked website. Maybe Walla is. Whatever.
ynet just added the Facebook like button to their website. I guess this means that most big publishers in the world will be adding the like button in the next few weeks.
Zuck is probably thinking: “It’s all going according to plan, mwahhahha, mwahhaha.”
:)
